Travellin’ Underground : Mos Dub (Max Tannone)

mos dub cover Travellin’ Underground : Mos Dub (Max Tannone)
Max Tannone did it again.  The NYC producer and DJ who delivered us the irresistible Jay-Z/Radiohead mashup album, Jaydiohead, just dropped his latest gem.  Mos Dub, pits the lyrical stylings of Mos Def against the classic sounds of vintage reggae and its latter day cousin, dub.  Sure it’s a mashup album, but its organic feel makes it feel like your first time.  There is something for everyone on this album.  Hip hop fans will sweat Mos Def’s remixed flow and the 420 crowd will pass the dutchie to the dub hand side.   Expect to see a number of these tracks on Hypem’s top 10 and on everyone’s summertime mix tapes.
Keeping it consistent, Max gives up his latest album, just like his last, for free. Get it here.  Download it.  Trust me.

Monday, March 29, 2010

Although there has been several handmade of Kanye West’s track “Street Lights” off 808s & Heartbreak circulating the web during the past year, this featured visual has received official approval. Directors Spike Jonze and Jonathan Bensimon chose Tokyo’s luminous facade as the setting for this intriguing clip. Both directors enact a man strolling through Japan’s capital while being haunted by bizarre imagery. The video comes courtesy of YeezyDude. Enjoy.

Brother Ali "Tight Rope" from Yours Truly on Vimeo.

Brother Ali’s “Tight Rope” tells a story in three parts. Verse 1 tells of the Somalian refugees who try to find home and hope in Ali’s native Minneapolis. Verse 2 touches on the all too familiar subject of the broken home and the insurmountable obstacles of going on like normal when there’s really no such thing. Verse 3 boldly explores the psyche of a young man outcast by homosexuality, desperately trying to hold up what’s left of an open identity.

Interview: Go Dj Dip

Everyone knows that success starts somewhere, I had the chance to interview one of the very first Go DJ's and boy was that a very good interview. Check it out and enjoy :)

Tae:
For those who are not familiar with Go DJ Dip, tell us a little about yourself.

Go DJ Dip:
I'm from Dallas, Oak Cliff off Camp Wisdom and Polk, I've been dj-ing since I was 16 and I'm a pretty laid back cat, just like my tattoo says, A-1 Since Day 1, I'm the last of a dying breed you know.  I've been a Go DJ since 2005, as a matter of fact, I was one of the first Go DJ's.  (laughs) DJ Hi-C was my mentor at the time.

Tae:
What makes you stand out from other DJ's?

Go DJ Dip:
Most definitely my personality and the feeling that I leave you with after you meet me. I have an aura about myself, something like a glow. Shit, I'm me.

Interview Wes B

Tae:
Tell me a little about yourself.

Wes B:
My name is Wes B, I am a Hip-Hop artist from New Orleans, CEO/Founder of XCEL Records, LLC/ Blue Duece Productions. I am also a part-time studio engineer at my home studio.

Tae:
What got you into music and production work?

Wes B:
I've always been into music, like literally. I used to change the words to all the songs to make them personable and pretend that I was a radio dj in my youth, was in my jr high and high school marching bands. I started building XCEL Records as a label in 2000.

Interview - Lyrikill

Tae:
For those that are not familiar with you, tell us a little about yourself.

Lyrikill:
I am Lyrikill, a 29 year-old hip-hop cultural enthusiast, emcee, spokesperson for real issues, sneaker addict and visionary. I represent the original elements of hip-hop culture (emceeing, deejaying, breaking and graffiti) and its true school renaissance from the southern region. I host a monthly event, called The Soundclash. It is a producer competition, local music showcase, and networking event to build unity in the New Orleans urban music scene. Our event works with established musicians as well as developing talent and we have been able to connect various artists with opportunities in the music industry.

Tae:
How would you describe your music?

Lyrikill:
I call it true school hip-hop music. True in the sense that it pays respect to the past, embodies the cultures and speaks to the people. I am a visual artist as well, so I like to think of my vocal performance through rap being literary and sonic art.

Sonic Skillz Interview

Tae had a chance to sit with Sonic Skillz and get his outlook on hip hop and being a producer. Check it out:
Tae:
Who is Sonic Skillz and how do you stand out from being another run of the mill producer?

Sonic Skillz:
Sonic Skillz is the alter ego of DCT, who's just a mild-mannered guy from New York who lives in Florida and loves to create. I think I stand out from being another run of the mill producer, by simply trying to be me. A lot of guys try to hard to replicate whatever sound is hot at the time, but as for me, I really try to find my own style.

Shall I Say Admiration

So, I consider myself pretty confident with my physical make up....I mean, I'd change a few things...Like let my 'fro GROW more but that'll come ya dig...There's one thing about myself that I dont like...Ya girl's measurements are 38(DD)-30-45 (this is as of YESTERDAY). I'm not sure what HER measurements are, but if I could get a flat belly like that, I'd be satisfied *MAYBE*....

Tahiry Jose is one chick that I can say I'd look up to for the simple fact that as of late, she doesnt or hasnt done a lot of things that other chicks have to get noticed. Her dude basically show's what I call pride, in her and basically on camera, their lives are cool. I'm sure that's how they act regularly.....

So basically, this whole blog is to say "Congrats Tahiry for launching tahirytv.com, congrats Joe Budden for supporting your girl to the Hundredth power and keep doin ya thang...I just gotta get my body in shape so I can get that spread in VIBE since KING is R.I.P. without having to be a video girl.
